1st version of Runescape:
Everything started in 1998, when Andrew Gower, the creator and developer of RuneScape created the game.
This is different of the RS we play today.
The game was called 'Devious Mud', and had another type of engine, than the today's RS.
The graphics were Isometric.
This version of the game wasn't released to the public, and only a few people saw it.

2nd version of Runescape:
A very similar version as the RuneScape 1, but this had a complete rewrite.
It was ready in 1999, and released to public for only 1 week, then withdrawn again.

 

3rd version of Runescape:                                                                                                       The creator gave another try again on October 1999.
He created another version of the game, and replaced the Isometric graphics to 3d graphics and 2d sprites.
This Version is called RuneScape Classic.
It was restricted to free to players in August 3, 2005, due to the too many people that abused the system.. Jagex banned over 5000 people that have been cached cheating. Only members can play this version, and if you didn't played at last once before 3 August 2005.

4th version of Runescape:

After Jagex LTD. was formed in December 2001, they made another complete rewrite, and called the game Runescape 2.
It was released to members in December 1, 2003 and finished version to all players, in March 17, 2004.
